Urgent – Action needed today – Help us make some noise before the Council Meeting on Thursday

We’re currently feeling extremely sad.

While progress hasn’t been made by EDC on the refurbishment of Lenzie Public Hall, we’ve periodically chased for news. We’ve always been assured by Councillors that the budget is there for its refurbishment, that delays have been due to COVID, the need for new cost estimates, the wish to refurbish the hall in the right way, with improved accessibility, eco standards etc.. The refurbishment of Lenzie Public Hall and the budget allocated to it (£500K, then £3.25m) has remained in EDC’s 10-year Capital Investment Plan.

In complete contrast to this, paperwork has been submitted for an East Dunbartonshire Council meeting this Thursday 6 March 2025 5:30pm proposing that:

– costs of £6 million are now needed to renovate Lenzie Public Hall

– all work on the project should cease immediately

– EDC withdraw from its agreement to lease the hall to LEAP

– the Hall be declared “surplus to operational requirements”

– offers be sought for its sale, transfer or lease.

The is not acceptable to us or the local community. The hall also most definitely isn’t “surplus to operational requirements”.

WE URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE SOME NOISE BEFORE THE COUNCIL MEETING ON THURSDAY.

How you can help

A minute or two to spare?

Sign this petition. If you could leave your reasons for doing so (there’s a box for you to do this) that would be fantastic.

A few more mins to spare?

Share the petition link (https://www.change.org/save-lenzie-public-hall) and our Facebook post link (https://www.facebook.com/share/1ESx3EwRBW/?mibextid=WC7FNe) to friends, family, any Whatsapp Groups and networks that you’re part of stressing the urgency of signing.

A bit more time to spare

We’ve put together this template email for sending to MSP, MP and all EDC Councillors. Cut and paste the text into an email and send as soon as possible to the distribution list on the Word doc (MP, MSP and all Councillors). Do tweak as you wish to make it more suited to you and your own thoughts.

The more of us that can make some noise by signing the petition and emailing the louder our voices will be heard – so act now!

A big big thank you in advance
