Who we are
We’re a group of people who live in and around Lenzie of a variety of ages with a range of interests. Between us we’ve connections to a wide variety of local groups and organisations (from Guiding, to Lenzie Tennis Club, Lenzie Fair Trade, Lenzie Community Council, schools, churches and local businesses). We’re each passionate about our community and where we live.
How we got together
We got together from September 2019 onwards in response to Lenzie Public Hall being closed and the tenants at that time having their lease terminated.
We set up what we called the Love Lenzie Hall group with the purpose of ensuring that our community continued to have use of the historic Lenzie Public Hall and with the vision (as we all still have today) of Lenzie Public Hall being “an inclusive and welcoming hub for everyone to enjoy” and “a vibrant and sustainable community asset”.
Lenzie Public Hall as:
“an inclusive and welcoming hub for everyone to enjoy”
“a vibrant and sustainable community asset”.
Our vision
We initially focussed on submitting a tenancy application for Lenzie Public Hall in our own name. Through our Facebook page, we were, however, contacted by LEAP Ltd, who deliver services to the over 50s. LEAP expressed an interest in using the hall if we were successful in our tenancy application for Lenzie Public Hall or, alternatively, using the hall but also putting in a tenancy application for Lenzie Public Hall in its own name with our support and backing.
Following lots of thought and reflection on the part of all involved in Love Lenzie Hall, we decided to support a tenancy application by LEAP in their name instead of putting in our own tenancy application. For doing this, we constituted ourselves The Love Lenzie Association and rebranded ourselves Love Lenzie.
We’re delighted that East Dunbartonshire Council approved in principle LEAP’s application for the lease of Lenzie Public Hall. This is a fantastic start at getting Lenzie Public Hall back as a vibrant space for use by the whole community but there’s still lots of hard work to go for everyone involved.
LEAP will be an asset to have in Lenzie and we look forward to welcoming them to Lenzie and working with them!
Us going forward
We’re looking to focus on community development, the arts, heritage and culture.
We’ve set ourselves the mission of working together to run events to nurture, support and unite the community (our mission) and doing this with passion, honesty & transparency, respecting the past and embracing the future (our values).
