Our people

Who we are

We’re a group of people (Board and wider project team) of a variety of ages with a range of interests and skills who live in the local area.

Between us we’ve connections to a wide variety of local groups and organisations (from Lenzie Community Council, the Love Lenzie Association, Lenzie Fair Trade, Gavin’s Mill Community Project, East Dunbartonshire Befriending Service, Lenzie Tennis Club, schools and churches) as well as finance, fundraising, construction and engineering skills and trustee / committee / board / non-for profit experience. We’re each passionate about our community and bringing Lenzie Public Hall back to life for the benefit of all.

How we got together

We got together (some of us having been previously involved with trying to get the hall back in use by the community, others new to the project) following East Dunbartonshire Council’s decision at the end of February 2025 to no longer refurbish Lenzie Public Hall and withdraw from its offer to lease the hall to the charity LEAP Ltd (see The hall – The story so far).

Us now and going forward

Having sought advice from external agencies, we’ve set up Lenzie Community Hall Limited (a Community Benefit Society, sometimes called a “BenCom”) for putting in an offer for the hall to bring it back into community ownership.

We have a volunteer Board supported by a working group of other volunteer team members.

We’re currently looking to grow our members as well as expand our team of committed and enthusiastic volunteers. If interested in becoming a member / volunteering, we’d love to hear from you.

Meet the team

Clare Marney

Clare is an NHS consultant and university lecturer. Through her professional work, she has seen first-hand the impact that a lack of physical activity and social connection can have on people’s health and wellbeing. She is a strong advocate for the public health benefits of having a thriving community centre at the heart of the local area.

Her children have benefited greatly from the wide range of activities and clubs available in the local area. Clare is passionate about helping to ensure there is a vibrant, inclusive community space available in the area for people of all ages, incomes and abilities. In her spare time, Clare enjoys singing, crafting and gardening, all pastimes she hopes to one day enjoy in and around Lenzie Public Hall.

Previously, Emma practised as a dual-qualified (English/Scots law) solicitor with law centre, in-house and private practice experience before taking a career break.

Emma lives in Lenzie and is passionate about making the local area the best place it can be for all who live, work and visit. With children at Lenzie Meadow Primary School & Lenzie Academy, she’s a member of both schools’ Parent Councils and helps run Lenzie Meadow Primary School’s running club. With memories of attending Lenzie Public Hall’s toddler group and, in so doing, making supportive and long-lasting friendships, she’s been involved with trying to get the hall back in use for the whole community since its closure in September 2019.

Emma has an interest in the environment, running and cycling and plays the clarinet.
