We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve officially submitted a Community Asset Transfer application for Lenzie Public Hall.
The hall was community-owned and run for 87 years from its construction in 1892 until its transfer to Strathkelvin District Council (now EDC) in 1979 (see The story so far).
Our Community Asset Transfer application is an offer to bring the hall back, once again, as a community-run asset.
Our plans
These include:
- a phased renovation over 5 years
- using the external area for markets and fairs and developing a community garden
- the first renovated spaces becoming available for hire towards the end of our first year of occupancy
- a cafe
- overall, everyone “working together to provide a flexible and accessible community facility for the benefit of all, creating healthier, more sociable lifestyles”(our mission).
This is an ambitious and exciting project for our community. The hall, if renovated, is one of the few spaces in the local area capable of hosting new services and serving as a real focal point for bringing the community together.
Everything we’ve achieved so far has been built through teamwork and local support, and we’re grateful to everyone who’s contributed.
We’re lucky to have a fantastic group of enthusiastic, passionate community members involved (see Our people).
However, to make the project the best it can be, we need the whole community – local groups, businesses and more community members – to come together, get involved and help bring our vision to life.
Next steps
The council will review our submission and business plan. We’ll keep you updated on the process.
